We live in the UK

I tend to post activities for intermetdiate and advanced learners, but I guess that I should try and balance my proposals by including more basic English for those with an elementary level (ESO1 & 2).
I found this listening excercise about the UK for those willing to do some practice!

WE LIVE IN THE UK was designed and posted by the British Council. You'll have to watch a short clip and then answer some questions. After that, vocabulary and grammar related to this topic will be delivered.
Ready for the challenge?

Imaginary Land Project. II Edition.

As we are about to celebrate Constitution Day in Spain, what better project than designing your own country??? You can't get any cooler than that! In groups, we will design a brochure to present an Imaginary Land with the following info:
Page 1: Name of the country & Flag.
Passage Way to South Seas by
Page 2: Members of the project
Page 3: Index of Contents (as detailed next)
Page 4: Description of the country
Page 5: Description of the capital city.
Page 6: Map including distinctive geographical aspects.
Page 7: Inhabitants and Nationality.
Page 8: Flora and Fauna
Page 9: Language
Page 10: LAWS.
This last point will be the perfect excuse to start a debate about the importance of a constitution, moving to ours in particular. They must reflect not only on people's rights, but also on their duties and responsibilities. Also, key aspects such as monarchy, presidency, religion and police forces will be questioned to be present or absent in each group's proposal.

Unit 2 was about recycling. We have learnt how important recycling is for present and future generations. In order to prove we are on eco-mode, our project requieres some active action from our side.
Option 1: Bring a recycled object from home that you usually use. Say what it is, what it is made of and why you use it.
Example: coconut bag. It is a bag made of coconut. I use it because it is perfect for small things such as mobile, keys or change. It is very handy to go out in summer.
Option 2: Create your own recycled object. Show the class how we can create things with our own hands and using materials we have at home.
Example one: corner bookmark (video tutorial in Spanish)
Example two: a butterfly bookmark (video tutorial in English)

Mind Mapping

According to Tony Buzan, mindmaps will help you remember thousands of words and phrases mainly for two reasons: 1) They group related concepts together and that mirrors the way in which your brain organises and stores new inforamtion. 2) They are visual, which helps you recall all information, especially language. That makes them idieal for learning and revision.

Car Boot Sale

Have you ever been told about a different and funky type of market such as Car boot Sale?
You can find them in places ranging from tiny villages to big cities. They are markets on wheels and run by private sellers. They very much look like spanish "mercadillos", with two main differences: the seller profile and the stuff sold. In Car boot sales, you will find proud (or tired) owners of a wide selection of products such as houseware, antiques, collectables, books, toys, shoes, music...you name it!. This is also intimately connected to a common practice in the UK: charity / second-hand shopping. You can find a considerable amount of second-hand shops in the high street of even the smallest village you can think of. It is a cultural thing and there is a great business niche based on ethical, social and environmental grounds.
As for where to go to participate in this kind of "open air recycling-based shopping", the sales take place in particular places and under particular permissions. Actually, there are some directories guiding your options when considering this type of purchase: Car boot junction  is a general UK directory, while Time out is a more specific site devoted to London.

Nelson Mandela and Apartheid, a racist policy.

During today's lesson, AS students have been led to the amazing story of Mandela's role in the history of South Africa. They have read and felt curious about his biography as a president and his key role in the fight for rights for the black comunity, ruled by a white minority.

Here is a link to those who want to learn more on the subject ;)

For the final project, you will use the following links to do research about your country and the final test for the other groups!!! Read carefully and design the perfect questionnaire :)))
