My Routine Project: PMAR ESO 2 Students

Sainsbury's Christmas Advert 2016

Watch the advert and answer the following questions?

According to Dave, the protagonist in the story:
- What is he telling you about his life?
- What is the best gift he wants for his family?
- Can you spot the different family types portrayed in the video?
- What do/don't you like about the advert?

"You need this" Project

A2 students (2º Bachillerato) have been working on advertising in this unit, so that they have read about different techniques used by companies. As a final project, they had to make an advert of something of their choice under the slogan "You need this".
They came up with very funny and quality adverts, which I am sharing with you:

The motorbike by Juan Santos and Armando Vega.
The Awesome Beard Product by José and David Santos.
The Scarf Blanket by Andrea Lijarcio and María Valenzuela.
An alternative production, a movie trailer, was produced by Laura Troya. Watch it if you dare...

Already bored??!!

School year is over! Yay! and holidays are here to stay (for two months). If you have succeeded in all subjects, close the books and have the summer of your life. If you have been less lucky, fun will take turns with books, some online revison and studying.
Here you are my Summer Tips for holidays with a touch of English ;)
My recommendation is to focus on listening and speaking, while watching tv series or movies and meeting new people in your holidays destination. Summer is definitely the perfect season for that!!!
Grammar and Reading were extra worked during the school year, so now, it is time to deal with the other skills. Both, listening and speaking, can be practised on my other blog Missisabelonline Listen Watch and Talk, devoted to aural skills. Actually, it is updating on a regular basis to offer as many alternatives as possible to learn, update, or keep in touch with the language.
Watch the videos I suggest, click on the links to improve the pronunciation, do the listenings from the listed websites, use the speaking sections to improve your conversation and, basically, practice as much as you can not to leave aside all the learning done so far.

You may find the blog lacks a bit more of culture sections / videos or listenings... Truth is I keep other blog for those matters and I invite you to chek it out. I hope you'll find everything you are looking for ;) Suggestions welcome :D

Warrior Society: Blood of the Kings

Blood of a King WORKSHEET

Results of VISUAL THINKING after listening to the audio by Maria José Ballesteros and Ana Delgado. They have used a comic format to tell you about the story the grandfather tells the boy. Do you like it? I found it rather complete and well done.

What lies behind Cheap Clothes? Raising awareness on Teens

It was a complete shock for my students today to come to terms to reality as far as the textile industry is concerned. They couldn't believe that the clothes we all wear are the result of brutal exploitation, including child labour in particular Asian countries. Why not devote some minutes to discuss this in the English classroom?
Ice-breaker video
GO on with simple questions: What do you normally buy? Where? Have you checked your T-shirt label to see where it was made? Do you know that there are (a recent innovation) labels warning that the piece of clothing you are about to buy is child labour free? What are the alternatives to your usual shops?

Human Rights Project for Bachillerato (AS) Level

Let's put our heads together so that we are able to show the world our concern about Human Rights. Everybody talks about them, but not everybody worries about them. If we are able to make our nearest community aware of their importance, we will be helping to make the world a better place.
Here you are the document which states the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (UDHR) in English.

What do you have to do?
1) Read the declaration and choose the Human Right you want to work with.
2) Take a photograph where that Right is pictured in an original and plastic way.
3) Post your photo on twitter with following hashtag #mycausePA16

You can also go to the following web for further information on the subject: Youthforhumanrights.

Miss Potter's Drawings

Do you Know this British writer? Here is an interesting opportunityl to learn about Literature, culture and round it off by watching a movie. We will work with the following Beatrix Potter Web Poster Wizard inspired by one already exisiting by Isabel Pérez. I tried to use hers, but some links were broken. But all my credits go to her as she originally designed and published it some years ago (see Isabel Perez's Poster )

Nelson Mandela vs the Apartheid, a racist policy.

During today's lesson, AS students have been led to the amazing story of Mandela's role in the history of South Africa. They have been told about his biography as a president and his key role in the fight for rights for the black comunity, ruled by a white minority.
Here is a link to those who want to learn more on the subject ;)

Between Us Links

"Between Us" is the name of unit 4 in my AS level students' book. It deals with relationships with people, either romantic, friendly or family-based. Given that 14th February is round the corner, we will set on the mood by reading about and listening to two amazing love stories.
READING: BBC News article Happy Ending for love letter pair. A true story.
LISTENINGYoutube video (with subtitles in Spanish) in which we are told how old Fred Stobaugh wrote such a sensitive letter to her wife, who had just passed away, that the moving words turned into the lyrics of the song "Oh Sweet Lorraine". Green Shoe studios were looking for a good songwriter. They definitely didn't get the singer out of Fred, but made the most out of his writing. Enjoy his story.
Here you are an alternative perspective of romantic love, or should I say romantic-free chemistry-based reality? THE SCIENCE OF ATTRACTION ;)
